The Type IIb SN 2008ax: spectral and light curve evolution

We present spectroscopy and photometry of the He-rich supernova (SN) 2008ax. The earlytime spectra show prominent P-Cygni H lines, which decrease with time and disappear completely about 2 months after the explosion. In the same period He I lines become the most prominent spectral features. SN 2008ax displays the ordinary spectral evolution of a Type IIb supernova. A stringent pre-discovery lim...

Sn 2005kd: Another Very Luminous, Slowly Declining Type Iin Supernova

CCD U BV RI photometry is presented for type IIn SN 2005kd. The maximum luminosity exceeded MV = −19.8, and SN remained brighter than −18 mag for about 400 days. While overall photometric evolution is quite similar to SN 1997cy, SN 2005kd shows a plateau at phases between 119 and 311 days past explosion, which is a unique feature for SN IIn.

A Light Echo from Type Ia Supernova SN 1995E?

We identify a light echo candidate from Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging of NGC 2441, the host galaxy of the Type Ia supernova 1995E. From the echo’s angular size and the estimated distance to the host galaxy, we find a distance of 207±35 pc between the dust and the site of the supernova. If confirmed, this echo brings the total number of observed non-historical Type Ia light echoes to thre...

SN 1996cr: Confirmation of a Luminous Type IIn Supernova in the Circinus Galaxy

We have recently confirmed SN 1996cr as a late-time type IIn supernova (SN) via VLT spectroscopy and isolated its explosion date to ∼1 yr using archival optical imaging. We briefly touch upon here the wealth of optical, X-ray, and radio archival observations available for this enigmatic source. Due to its relative proximity (3.8±0.6 Mpc), SN 1996cr ranks among the brightest X-ray and radio SNe ...

iPTF15dtg: a double-peaked Type Ic supernova from a massive progenitor

Context. Type Ic supernovae (SNe Ic) arise from the core-collapse of H(and He-) poor stars, which could either be single Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars or lower-mass stars stripped of their envelope by a companion. Their light curves are radioactively powered and usually show a fast rise to peak (∼10−15 d), without any early (in the first few days) emission bumps (with the exception of broad-lined SNe I...
